LiveFire Labs Student Lab GuideHow To Take This Course For the majority of the time, you will only need to have two windows open on your computer system while taking this course. One window will be a web browser containing the student interface (this is the window you are reading this from), and the other window will be for the SSH connection to our lab system. The web browser/student interface window will be used to view the course content, and the SSH window will be used to complete the hands-on exercises. Case Sensitivity Everything in UNIX and Linux is case sensitive. This includes your username and password. Make sure your keyboard's Caps Lock is set to off before logging in. Course Conventions 1. Course content text is in bold when: · the text is an operating system command · emphasis is being placed on an important concept 2. Most command examples are prefixed with a $ (dollar sign). This is used to illustrate a command is being typed in. Do not add an extra $ when typing in operating system commands at the command prompt. 3. The course's hands-on exercises may build on the results from a previous hands-on exercises. It is recommended that you do not perform the exercises out of order. 4. The "Try This" image contains detailed instructions for a hands-on exercise: When you see this image on a course page, click on it to display the instructions for the exercise. |
